I have been developing a love for backcountry camping over the past year, but hadn't had the opportunity to share this wonderful experience with my husband! June 10th, 2022 marked our 22nd anniversary and it was the best way to celebrate!
Long before hitting the trail, we started to prep. Thinking about what we needed for two of us, instead of just me! We laid it all out and determined we had more than enough equipment for both of us!

All geared up, off we went. Frontenac Provincial Park is in Sydenham, Ontario. It's about 40 minutes north of Kingston, Ontario. It is a huge park at 5,355 hectares on the southern edge of the Canadian Shield. There are 48 Interior campsites, spread over 22 lakes and 100km of looped backpacking trails.
Our site was on Birch Lake (Site 8B), a beautiful site on a point. The hike in was approximately 6km and I would call it a moderate hike to the site. We actually loved Birch lake and if we were to go back we would stay at 8A if it was available as it had it's own sandy beach! I would avoid 8C as it was wet and muddy.

Our dinner view was incredible!

There was a perfect place to hang the hammock! It was a little chilly this weekend, so I didn't take advantage but my hubby had the best nap there.

The morning was quite chilly, but it warmed up and turned into a hot day! We walked up to explore the old mine (a nice hike from our site). I waited at the top as I wasn't up to climbing down the hill to the site, also I'm not sure you are really allowed down there!

By the time we got back to camp I got a storm warning on my phone. I looked at the forecast and they were calling for big storms to roll in and last all night. We knew we would barely have enough time to get out, but made the tough decision to pack up quickly and head out, being fairly inexperienced in the backcountry we didn't want to risk the storm.
On the way out we encountered a beautiful doe grazing in a swamp, timing is everything, if we hadn't left when we did we wouldn't have seen it!
We made it out before the storm hit and are both looking forward to heading back!
