If you’re looking for a park that truly has a bit of everything, Grundy Lake Provincial Park should be on your list. Just off the Trans-Canada Highway, it’s the kind of place that feels both easy to get to and wonderfully tucked away.

Grundy has camping options for everyone. Whether you’re setting up the RV, car camping with the family, or paddling out to a quiet backcountry site. The lakes here are absolutely beautiful, with smooth rocky shores and sandy spots that make for perfect swimming. Bring your bikes, because there’s lots to explore on two wheels, and if you love to paddle, you’ll find endless canoeing and kayaking routes through the park’s many inland lakes.
The hiking trails are a highlight, too. Great views, varied terrain, and something for every skill level. And if you’re visiting with kids or just love learning more about the land, the Natural Heritage Education programs are a nice touch.
What makes Grundy special is how it sits right on the edge of northern and southern forest. You can really feel that mix when you’re walking through the trails or sitting by the lake at sunset. It’s a park that feels both wild and welcoming, and once you’ve been, it’s one of those places you’ll keep wanting to come back to.

Sometimes the best part of camping is just relaxing. Set up with some music (quietly!), an easy dinner and a good book!
Of course, a campfire in September is a perfect way to end an evening!

Honestly, this trip was just about relaxing, no crazy hikes, the weather was less than ideal, so I decided to check out a nearby park just to have a look.
If you’re after that classic Northern Ontario getaway with quiet mornings, great fishing, and lazy beach days Sturgeon Bay Provincial Park is the spot. Just off Highway 69, it’s an easy stop along the Trans-Canada, but once you’re there, it feels worlds away.
The park sits right among the famous 30,000 Islands, with Sturgeon Bay leading straight out into Georgian Bay, so you’re surrounded by water and beautiful views in every direction.
The fishing here is excellent, whether you’re casting from shore or heading out by boat, there’s always a good chance of reeling something in.
The beach is another highlight: shallow, sandy, and perfect for swimming or just spending the afternoon by the water. It’s one of those smaller parks that has a laid-back, friendly feel, simple, peaceful, and easy to enjoy.
